Associate with people in such a manner that they weep for you when you die and long for you if you are alive.

One who cautions you is as one who brings you good news.

۞

Each breath one takes is a step toward one’s destiny.

۞

Everything quantifiable runs out, everything anticipated is yet to come.

۞

One who is moderate does not go wrong.

۞

You have been shown, if you see;
and you have been guided, if you have found the way;
and you have been made to hear, if you listen.

۞

People oppose what they are ignorant about.

۞

Poverty is indeed a trial, but sickness is worse then poverty.
And worse then sickness of the body is sickness of the heart.
Wealth is indeed a blessing, but physical health is better then wealth.
And even better then physical health is soundness of heart.

۞

Remember that enjoyments pass while consequences remain.

۞

Sleep in a state of certainty is better then prayer in a state of doubt.

۞

Asked about destiny, Hadrat ‘Ali said
“it is a dark path; do not enter it.
It is a deep sea; do not plunge into it.
It is a secret of God; do not burden yourself with it”.

In the Qur’an is report of the past, information on the future, and wisdom for the meanwhile.

Complacency hinders growth.

Statement of Beliefs regarding Nabuwwah {Prophethood}

Prophets were sent by ALlāh to the world for the guidance of humanity.

They are all free from blemishes and sins.

The actual number of Prophets is only known by ALlāh Alone.

To establish their truthfulness, ALlāh made difficult events happen through them, which no ordinary man can imitate. Such events are known as mu’jazah (miracles).

The first of the Prophets to be sent to mankind is Hazrat ‘Adam (‘alaihis salam) and the final Prophet is Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha (salla’Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

The rest of the Prophets were sent in-between. Some of whom mentioned in the Qur’an by name are: Idris; Nuh; Ibrahim; Lut; Isma’il; Is’haq; Ya’qub; Yusuf; Ayyub; Shu’aib; Musa; Haroon; Dhul-Kifl; Da’wuud; Sulaiman; Ilyas; Yunus; Zakariyah; Yahya; ‘Isa (‘alaihus salatu as salam).

ALlāh has not revealed the exact number of the Prophets to anyone; part of our belief is to have faith in all of the Prophets, those known and those unknown.

Of all the Prophets the position of some are far more exalted then others. The most exalted is our Prophet: Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha (salla’Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

No new Prophet will come after him and he (salla’Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is the Prophet of all those to be born till the Day of Judgment.

While awake the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha (salla’Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was taken by ALlāh in his physical body from Makkah to Bait-ul-Muqaddas in al-Quds. And from there through the seven Heavens up to wherever ALlāh Willed and back. This is known as al-Mi’raj (The Ascension).

Statement of Beliefs regarding Tawhid {Oneness of God}

ALlāh Is One.

He Is Alone. He has no need of partners.

He has no equal. He Is Unique. He Is Alive

He resembles no one and there is nothing like Him.

He Alone is worthy of Worship.

He Sees and Hears everything.

He is not subordinate to anyone, nor does He depend on anyone.

He has neither given birth nor has He been born.

He Is Eternal. He has been from eternity and shall remain till eternity.

He Has Command over everything, and nothing happens without His Knowledge.

He Does whatever He Wills and there is no one to challenge Him.

All that happens in this world happens through His Will, and nothing goes against His Will, so much so that even a leaf does not fall from a tree without His Order.

He neither sleeps nor does slumber overtake Him.

All good Qualities are His and He Is Free from all blemishes.

He Is The Judge. He Will bring all of His creation to life again on the Day of Judgment.

He Gives life and Causes death.

He Sustains everything.

He Is The Creator. He Is The Lord of all. He Is Merciful to His creation. He Forgive whoever He Wills.

He Is Just. He Is Almighty and Powerful, He Bestows to His slaves respect or reduces them to disgrace. He Is The Punisher and Punishes those who deserve His Punishment.

He is not bound by anything.

He’s Speech (kalam) is not like the speech of man.

His Signs and Qualities are there for all to see, but no one can truly know the mystery of His Existence.

All of His Qualities are Eternal and none of Them will ever diminish.

He Is Free from human qualities and whatever is said in the Qur’an regarding such qualities, their meaning should be left to Him as He Alone Knows their true significance. Whatever the Qur’an says regarding them is true. We believe in all of them without being inquisitive and have full faith in them. This is the best way for us, however we may give meaning to them in accordance with our (limited) understanding in order to make them more comprehensible and easy to understand.

All good and evil in this world happens with His Full Knowledge long before their happening. This is known as Fate or Destiny.

He Created human beings with the ability to understand and comprehend. According to their discretion they commit either good or evil. He Is Pleased with good deeds and Displeased with sinful deeds and Rewards or Punishes accordingly.

He has not commanded His slaves to do anything beyond their capacity.

He is not bound by anything. Any kindness that He Shows is on account of His Mercifulness and Generosity.

He Alone Possesses the Full and Complete Knowledge of the Unseen.

And all dominion belongs to Him. He Alone Is The Lord of the worlds.

Following is the noble silsilāh in ‘iIm-e Tasawwuf, showing the spiritual link of the Masters of Wisdom, which has been preserved and passed on to their spiritual heirs in an unbroken chain.

I Am As My Servant Thinks I Am

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says :

I am as My servant thinks I am.
I am with him when he makes mention of Me.
If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better then it.
And if he draws near to Me a hand’s span, I draw near to him an arm’s length; and if he draws near to Me an arm’s length, I draw near to him a fathom’s length.
And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.

Enmity Against The Devotees Of Allah And Its Consequences

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says :

Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him.
My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me then the religious duty I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continuous to draw near to Me with supererogatory works, so that I shall Love him.
When I Love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks.
Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it.
I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about (seizing) the soul of My faithful servant; he hates death and I hate hurting him.

Kalimah at-Tayyibah

The first and the most important pillar of the deen is the shahadah or the ‘Kalimah at-Tayyibah’ :

La ilaha illAllahu Muhammadur RasuluAllah

‘There is no god except Allàh, and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allàh’

It is well worth a reminder for believers to know the following about the ‘Kalimah at-Tayyibah’ :

1. This holy formula is (not was) the kalimah of all the Ambiya from sayyiduna Adam (alaihis salam) to sayyiduna ‘Isa (alaihis salam).

2. This kalimah is written on the gates of jannah and on the Arsh of Allàh subhanahu wa ta’ala.

3.
a) There are two sentences in this kalimah, the first one (tawheed) is in a negative form and the second one (risalah) is in an affirmative form. When a mumin believes in the two (tawheed and risalah), the light (nur) of Islam descends in his/her qalb (heart).

b) Allàh combined both those two sentences into one, He did this to show the prestige, importance and honour He has confirmed upon His beloved Prophet, our master, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa salla’llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

c) One who believes in the Oneness of Allàh yet does not believe in the prophethood of Muhammad salla’llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam will forever remain a kafir and cannot demand half the reward from Allàh, i.e. that of tawheed alone.

4. There are 24 letters and 7 words in this Arabic kalimah (it’s lost in the English translation), a mumin must remember and obey Allàh and His Prophet salla’llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, 24 hours of the day, 7 days of the week. This kind of perfect obedience is seen best amongst His Awliya, who are the elite of the Sufis.

5. This kalimah is the ruh (soul) of the dunya (world), when it is changed or forgotten, the dunya will be destroyed.

To be free from the punishment of jahannam does not depend on tawheed alone, but depends on Iman, which includes tawheed and risalah as Allàh Himself testifies in the noble Qur’an (4:136) :

O you who believe! Believe in Allàh and His Prophet, and the Book, which He has sent down to His Prophet, and the Book, which He sent down in former times, whoever disbelieves in Allàh, His angels, His Books, His Prophets and the Last Day, has wandered far, far astray.

And tawfiq is from Allàh alone.

Wasallallhu ‘ala sayidina wa maulana muhammadin wa ‘ala alihi wa sahbihi wa awliyâi wa ahle sunnatihi wa ummatihi ajma’in, bi rahmatika ya arhamar rahimin, amin.

Sayyid Ahmed Berelwi (1201–1248AH)

A Biographical Sketch Of Hazrat Sayyid Ahmed ibn Muhammad Berelwi RahmatulLahi ‘alaih

Born in 1786 C.E. in Rai-Berelwi, Uttah Paradesh, India.

His noble father’s name was Sayyid Muhammad Irfan, an ‘Alim of immense stature.

He was a direct descendent (36th in line) of the Holy Prophet salla’lLahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, through his grandson Hasan ibn ‘Ali radiAllahu anhum.

His ancestors started arriving in India around 1211-1236 C.E. and begun spreading the light of Islam.

On the 6th of June 1831 C.E. the Imam fought a jihad against the Sikhs in Balkot, Afghanistan, and became a martyr along with 9,000 other mujahideen.

His Murshid was the Imam of his time in India; Shah Abdul ‘Aziz, Muhadith-i-Dehlawi.

One of his murid, ‘Abdul Ahad reported that during his lifetime, around 40,000 Hindus and non-Muslims took shahadah in his blessed hand!

His three most prominent khulafahs where:

Of the three, Hazrat Karamat ‘Ali was the only one who did not take part in any jihad against the Sikhs or the ruling British Raj, as he was ordered by his Murshid to go to Bengal (present day Bangladesh) and guide the people to Islam and implement the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet salla’lLahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, as opposed to the prevalent customs and cultures of the time.

A Miracle (Karamah)

An incident is recorded regarding the noble Sayyid while he was residing in Calcutta; there was once a man who had an obsession with alcohol. One day this fellow came to the presence of the Imam and asked to give baya’ to the Imam, but begged to be given the chance to continue with his drinking as he felt he would die without it!

The Imam answered, “As you wish, however you must promise never to drink in front of me”.

Having made his promise to the Imam, the person then gave baya’ and went on his way home.

Once home, he ordered his servant to bring him alcohol, and while holding his drink in his hand, he was about to touch the glass to his lips, when he saw the Imam right in front of him! Shocked by the sight, he dropped his drink.

As soon as the glass smashed on the floor spilling the alcohol, he realised the Imam was no longer there! So he begun to get more alcohol, and like before, as soon as he brought the alcohol next to his lips the Imam appeared right in front of him, and again he dropped it on the floor with the same result, the Imam had disappeared!

Feeling a little freaked, he locked all the doors and windows in his house and once again begun to take the alcohol and again the Imam stood right in front of him! As soon as he dropped it, the Imam was nowhere to be seen!

In the end, out of despair, he took the rest of the alcohol and went into the toilet, reasoning the Imam wouldn’t be there. But to his surprise the Imam stood right in front of him!

Realising that where ever he goes to drink, the Imam would be watching him, he got rid of all the alcohol in his house and went straight to the Imam and fell at his feet and begged for forgiveness and promised he would never touch alcohol again!

A Slur Against The Noble Sayyid

His enemies accused him of being a ‘Wahabi’, however, he was far from it, the jihad he waged against the Sikhs was solely to defeat non-Muslims and bring peace and Islamic rule to what was once Muslim-India before the British went in and murdered the Muslim Mogul Emperors.

His intention was to defeat the British Raj and free the Muslims in Hind from kufr rule.

It is an irony that a descendent of the Messenger of Allah salla’lLahu ‘alaihi wa sallam can be even called a ‘Wahabi’!

Today, his intellectual and spiritual descendents are all over India, especially in Assam, and also in Bangladesh, if he was (as is claimed) a ‘Wahabi’, then his so-called ‘Wahabi’’-influence should have passed onto them, yet we observe those pure Sunni Muslims following a Madhhab and belonging to a Ţariqāh and observing the Mawlid, hardly the actions of a would be ‘Wahabi’!

AlhamdulilLah, the Messenger of Allah salla’lLahu ‘alaihi wa sallam told us to hold onto his household in times of darkness, as they are the shining examples for us to follow.

şahibi-t taaji wa’l mi’raji wa’l buraqi wa’l ‘alam
daafi ’l bala ’i wa’l wa ba ’i wa’l qahţi wa’l maradi wa’l ‘alam
ismuhu makhtubun marfu ’un mashfu ’un manqu shun fil lawhi wa’l qalam
sayyidil ‘arabi wa’l ‘ajam
jismuhu muqaddasun mu’aţarun muţahharun munawarun fil bayti wa’l haram
shamsid duha badrid duja şadril ‘ula nuril huda kahfil wara mişbahidhulam
jamilishiyam shafi ’l umam şahibil judi wa’l karam
wa’lLahu ‘aşimuhu wa jibrilu khadimuhu wa’l buraqu markabuhu wa’l mi’raju safaruhu wa sidratul muntaha maqamuhu wa qaba qawsaini maţlubuh

ya aiuhal mushtaquna bi nuri jamalihi şallu ‘alaihi wa alihi wa aşhabihi wa sallimu taslima.

Translation:

O Allah, send peace and blessings on our master and patron Muhammad

The owner of the crown and the ascent and the buraq and the standard

The repeller of affliction and disease and drought and illness and pain

His name is written on high, served and engraved in the Tablet and on the Pen

The leader of all, Arabs and non-Arabs

Whose body is sanctified, fragrant and pure, illumined in the House and the haram

The sun of brightness, the full moon in darkness, the foremost one in the highest fields, the light of guidance, the cave of refuge for mortals, the lamp that dispels the night

The best-natured one, the intercessor of nations, the owner of munificence and generosity

Allah is his Protector, Gabriel is his servant, the buraq is his mount, the ascent is his voyage, the Lote-tree of the furthermost boundary is his station, two bow-lengths or nearer is his desire

His desire is his goal, and he has found his goal

The master of the messengers, the seal of the prophets, the intercessor of sinners, the friend of the strangers

The mercy for the worlds, the rest of those who burn with love, the goal of those who yearn

The sun of knowers, the lamp of travellers, the light of those brought near, the friend of the poor and destitute

The master of humans and jinn, the prophet of the two sanctuaries, the Imam of the two qiblas, our means in the two abodes

The owner of qaba qawsayn

The beloved of the Lord of the east and the west

The grandfather of al-Hasan and al-Hussain

Our patron and the patron of humans and jinns

Abu-l-Qasim Muhammad son of ‘Abdullah

A light from the light of Allah

He is not a wholesome number

He is not the number ‘one’, which divides into other numbers
which is added to, subtracted from, and multiplied by
He Was before the invention of numbers, He Is after the invention of numbers
‘One’ does not render onto Him justice, nor does it describe Him in definitive term
He is not ‘one’, He Is
Numbers are imaginary, calculated by the mind
He Is Reality, witnessed through vision

Time, Space & The REAL

Man has three stages in his life…
…A past
…A present
…And a future

Time does not stand still for him, and his limits are within the boundaries of space
So when he tries to describe The Real, he says ‘what was there before Him?’
Believing that since he is subject to time therefore Allah too is a ‘subject’ of time
His fragile mind finds it hard to accept that time like him is a creation
Time like him ages and like him it will come to a stop
And only He will Be as He Was and continues to Be

Because of his limits he tries to define The Real with limitations and says ‘where’ is He?
‘Where’ does not apply to Him
He is not down ‘here’
Nor is He up ‘there’

Space like time was created so that man can fit into it and not for Him to ‘fit’ into
Like him space too will come to an end
Only He will Remain as He Was and continues to Be

Exalted is He…Limitless is He…Timeless is He…Ageless is He…Real is He…Elusions are we

Hadith of the Heart (Qalb)
